Why bay window cushions go mouldy
Bay windows are among the most humid spots in a Singapore home. Condensation forms on the glass, especially with the aircon on. Rain seeps through gaps, and the cushion sits against the cold ledge with no airflow underneath. Add sun, dust from outside and people sitting on it daily, and you get mould spots on the underside, a musty smell and faded, grimy covers.
What we do
- Inspect both sides of the cushion and the foam for mould.
- HEPA vacuum to remove spores and dust.
- Treat mould spots with a fabric-safe anti-fungal cleaner.
- Extraction clean the covers and cushion.
- Dry thoroughly. This is critical: a damp cushion goes mouldy again.
Can it be saved?
- Surface mould on the cover can usually be removed.
- Mould on the foam surface can be treated, and it may leave a mark.

Keep it from coming back
- Lift or flip the cushion every week so the underside airs out.
- Put a breathable mat or slats under it to create an air gap.
